Surgical Technology

Program Overview

Baker College's Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology prepares students to work as operating room team members under surgeon supervision. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), on the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA), and totals 67 credit hours, including 29 hours of prerequisites and 38 hours of major coursework delivered on campus. Curriculum follows the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology, 7th Edition, and includes hands-on training in simulation labs starting on day one, taught by practicing surgical technologists. Graduates are prepared to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting and pursue entry-level roles in operating rooms, labor and delivery units, cardiac catheterization labs, outpatient facilities, and private physician offices.
